WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Milan are rebuilding their midfield core, with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/luka-modric-ac-milan-confident-of-veteran-midfielder-signing-after-positive-talks-following-real-madrid-departure/bltc85af99d2a17cf1d" target="_blank">Modric expected to join on a free transfer from Real Madrid</a>. Xhaka is seen as an additional profile who might provide the Croatian veteran more expertise and calmness. The 32-year-old made 49 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 season with two goals and seven assists and now is looking for a new challenge since Xabi Alonso left Leverkusen to take over as Madrid's new manager.</p>
