Celtic suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 defeat aggregate to Bayern Munich but certainly did not go down without a fight in an impressive showing from Brendan Rodgers's side in a 1-1 draw in Germany.The visitors came into the second leg a goal down and really should have gone in at the break with the tie level after missing several good chances.Callum McGregor had the first opportunity after robbing Michael Olise on the halfway line before racing forwards and smashing a shot off target with just Manuel Neuer to beat. Neuer was then beaten by Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn after a neat move but the German goalkeeper had Raphael Guerreiro to thank for hooking the ball away on the line.Kuhn was then a whisker away from converting a low cross at the far post, while Daizen Maeda went close with a chip over Neuer that drifted over the bar.Celtic were handed a wake-up call just before half-time when Harry Kane smashed a shot against the woodwork after a cross from Jamal Musiala but that was the England captain's last involvement as he was taken off at the break and replaced by Kingsley Coman.The visitors continue to press high and were rewarded just after the hour. Maeda's hard work, coupled with some poor defending from Kim Min-Jae, left Kuhn with only Neuer to beat and he fired a low shot home to level the tie on aggregate.Bayern tried to respond but struggled to find the target without Kane on the pitch. Leon Goretzka sent a flying header wide of the post, while Leroy Sane wiggled into the box and then fired over the crossbar when as the hosts' frustrations continued.The goal did eventually come deep into stoppage time but required a stroke of good fortune. Olise picked out Goretzka with a curling cross into the penalty area and his header was well saved by Kasper Schmeichel. However, Alphonso Davies was lurking and managed to bundle home from close range to send Bayern through and wreck Celtic's dreams of a famous European win.

Celtic may not have won the game but there's no doubt the best players on the pitch all wore green on Monday. Goalscorer Kuhn certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side. The former Bayern player was a real handful all night and became the first German to score against Bayern in the knockout stages since Lukas Podolski for Arsenal in 2014 when he netted for Celtic.

The Bayern striker now potentially faces a spell on the sidelines which spells bad news for Bayern, particularly with a key Bundesliga game against third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt up next.

THE BIG LOSER

Bayern now progress to the last 16 and will take on either Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid in the next round. The round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final draw takes place on Friday.
