WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Turkiye are yet to start their World Cup qualification campaign, having instead played Nations League games as they sealed a promotion to League A, and took on <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/usmnt-player-ratings-vs-turkey-jack-mcglynn-jaw-dropper-undone-by-inexcusable-johnny-cardoso-mishap-as-mauricio-pochettino-s-side-lose-third-consecutive-match/bltc8a4ea255cf39afb" target="_blank">Mauricio Pochettino's USA on Saturday</a>. After going 1-0 down in the opening minute, Guler equalised midway through the first half and Kerem Akturkoglu quickly followed it up with a second goal on their way to securing a 2-1 win.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>His latest goal was Guler's fifth for Turkiye since his debut in 2022. The 20-year-old got more opportunities during his second season with Real Madrid and his development under incoming manager Xabi Alonso will be exciting to see.</p>
