<p>The fallout from <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/fifa-removes-club-leon-from-2025-club-world-cup-over-multi-club-ownership-appeal-expected-james-rodriguez/bltf62b4cec4cb08ae0" target="_self">León’s expulsion</a> from the Club World Cup over multi-ownership violations has reignited scrutiny on Liga MX’s long-standing issue with shared club ownership. After Grupo Caliente sold Querétaro to U.S. investors earlier this month - ending their dual ownership with Club Tijuana - all eyes have now shifted to Grupo Orlegi, the owners of Santos Laguna and Atlas.
</p><p>According to <a href="https://www.tudn.com/futbol/liga-mx/grupo-orgeli-acaba-con-multipropiedad-y-pone-en-venta-al-atlas" target="_self">multiple reports,</a> Orlegi has begun the process to sell Atlas, the club they acquired in 2019 and led to a historic back-to-back league title run in 2021–2022. The group is reportedly asking $400 million for the Guadalajara-based side, although no formal bids have been confirmed yet.</p>

<p>With this move, Liga MX appears one step closer to resolving its multipropiedad issue, though two other ownership groups - TV Azteca (Puebla and Mazatlán) and Grupo Pachuca (Pachuca and León) - still hold multiple franchises.</p>

<p>In an official statement, Orlegi Sports explained that the decision aligns with a planned transition aimed at ensuring Atlas continues to grow under new ownership that fully understands the club’s cultural and sporting importance.</p><p>“Orlegi Sports has begun a process to explore a structured and planned transition in the operation of Atlas FC, with the goal of ensuring continued growth under a group that recognizes the club’s sporting, social, and cultural relevance,” the statement read.</p><p>To oversee the transition, Orlegi has hired Moelis &amp; Company, ADS, and Weil, Gotshal &amp; Manges LLP as financial and legal advisors.</p><p></p>

<p>Gonzalo Pineda’s side kicked off the Apertura 2025 with a hard-fought 3-2 away win over Puebla. Now, they face a tougher challenge as they host Cruz Azul this Saturday on home turf.</p>
