<p>Newcastle United tried and failed to sign the centre-back last summer and now <a href="https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-newcastle-chelsea-marc-guehi-34867888" target="_blank">The Mirror</a> states Liverpool are in pole position for the 24-year-old. The report adds their main rivals in the race to sign him looks to be Chelsea but there could be late interest from Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham. </p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Guehi could be a direct replacement for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, who said in midweek that he <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/virgil-van-dijk-says-anyone-claiming-liverpool-contract-extension-close-lying-defender-has-no-idea-if-at-anfield-next-season/blt3c05b43abd348e57" target="_blank">doesn't know where he will be playing next season</a>. The Reds will not secure the England international's signature on the cheap, despite his contract expiring in 2026. </p>

<p>The report adds that Newcastle are 'aware' that they have lost out in the race for Guehi's signature, less than a year on from <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/marc-guehi-transfer-update-crystal-palace-chairman-newcastle-interest-england-euro-2024-star/blt94bfe19b9ebff6a2" target="_blank">bidding upwards of £60 million</a> ($77.6m/€71m) for the ex-Chelsea man. </p>
