<p>Tel, 19, had initially turned down a transfer to Spurs, despite a €60 million (£50m) agreement between the two clubs. However, after Manchester United reportedly withdrew from negotiations with Bayern, Tel ultimately joined Ange Postecoglou’s squad on loan until the end of the season with a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/mathys-tel-transfer-u-turn-bayern-munich-complete-deadline-day-tottenham-loan-move/blt6091d6bca6882020" target="_blank">€55 million (£45.7m) option to buy</a> included in the deal.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>With Tel now in the Premier League, Bayern Munich find themselves in need of attacking reinforcements, despite Kane firing on all cylinders, scoring 29 times in 33 appearances across all competitions. It has been reported that the club is already assessing potential replacements for Tel, with a shortlist that includes Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen), Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP), and Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig).</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Bayern are considering whether they need a direct understudy to Kane or a more versatile forward. When asked about their next move, sporting director Max Eberl admitted that signing a like-for-like replacement for the English striker is challenging.</p><p>"That is an idea that we are planning," he said. "The decision is not easy to make, just look at Manchester City: There, a top striker, Julian Alvarez, left the club (to Atletico Madrid) because he hardly played behind Erling Haaland. That's why it is difficult to get a 1:1 replacement for Harry Kane, but perhaps rather someone who can be used in a variety of ways."</p><p>Eberl also acknowledged that parting ways with Tel was a difficult but necessary decision.</p><p>"When I started here, Mathys was an important face for the future of FC Bayern for me," he admitted. "The situation then developed differently. Sometimes you have to make such tough decisions because a development has stagnated and it is not a good fit for either side."</p>

The focus now shifts to a crucial Champions League showdown against Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, March 5.</p>
