<p>Fabregas' career with Barcelona could be the most proper case of 'right place at the wrong time' as he came up through the ranks from the Blaugrana's La Masia academy at a time when Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta had the midfield locked down. The Spanish maestro had a wonderful spell with Arsenal, having joined them in 2003, before he returned to Barcelona and spent a good three years before he left for Monaco.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Fabregas moved from Monaco two years later for Serie B side Como before becoming their head coach last summer. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/cesc-fabregas-outwits-antonio-conte-como-napoli-scott-mctominay-serie-a-title/bltd79d6f3c1055b4c4" target="_blank">The Spaniard has helped the side stay in Serie A</a> after their promotion to the Italian top tier. <a href="https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/cesc-perfila-rival-barca-gamper-118000709" target="_blank">Diario Sport</a> has now reported that Fabregas could return to Barcelona for the Joan Gamper Trophy ahead of the start of the 2025-26 season, as the Catalan club may be set to pick Como as their opponents.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Last season, another one of Fabregas' former sides, Monaco, took their place as Barcelona's Joan Gamper Trophy opponents. The Ligue 1 side became the first team to beat the Catalan side in the tournament since 2012, when Sampdoria beat the Blaugrana.</p>
