<p>Per <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6399213/2025/06/16/chelsea-transfers-malick-fofana/" target="_blank"><em>The Athletic</em></a>, the Blues have made a verbal enquiry about 20-year-old Lyon winger Fofana as they look to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window. The Premier League side are looking for right-footed wide players who can operate on the flanks, after they decided <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/chelsea-penalty-fee-send-jadon-sancho-man-utd-breakdown-permanent-transfer-negotiations/bltc134ee2a5410adb0" target="_blank">not to make Sancho's transfer permanent from Manchester United</a>. </p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Fofana joined the Ligue 1 giants from Gent in January 2024 and his current deal does not expire until the summer of 2028. In the 2024-25 campaign, the Belgium international made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists. He played a key role in Lyon reaching the quarter-final of the Europa League. </p>

The English side have also been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens.  </p>
