The USMNT endured a disappointing Copa America in front of home fans, crashing out of the competition in the group stage - despite having a relatively kind group. And Christian Pulisic, who captained the side, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/usmnt-christian-pulisic-better-days-promise-to-fans-disappointing-copa-america-exit/blt08aa813587dfcf33" target="_blank">admitted that the team should have performed better</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The winger reflected on the team's poor performance, but expressed optimism on the future of the team, in a press conference Friday, in advance of AC Milan's friendly against Manchester City Saturday night in New York."It was disappointing to exit as early as we did. I've had a lot of time to think about it," he said. "Obviously, for me, it was important to also take the time off and take some rest. It was a long season, and now my focus is here, 100%. Obviously, some things will change with the national team and, you know, a new coach on the way, or whatever, but I'll worry about that in the international windows."I'm excited to be here. I got some good rest, and I'm really just ready to get started. Obviously, we have a lot of games ahead this season."

WHAT CHRISTIAN PULISIC SAID

The USMNT <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/gregg-berhalter-reportedly-out-as-usmnt-coach-in-wake-of-copa-america-failure/bltf2025138bcad4c1a" target="_blank">fired Gregg Berhalter after the Copa America</a>, and have since been on the lookout for a new head coach. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/jurgen-klopp-rejects-u-s-soccer-usmnt-head-coach/blt26892c834a432226" target="_blank">Jurgen Klopp reportedly turned down the job in early July</a>, while Patrick Viera and Steve Cherundolo, among others, have both been linked.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The winger is expected to play a part as Milan take on Manchester City in a high profile pre-season friendly Saturday night. His next USMNT appearance will likely be in early September, with a friendly against Canada scheduled.
