WHAT HAPPENED?

AC Milan signed Pulisic from Chelsea last summer for a fee in the region of £18 million ($22m), and since then the American has provided a bright spark in an otherwise underwhelming campaign for Stefano Pioli's side. The 25-year-old has chipped in seven goals and six assists in all competitions this season, but Milan find themselves out of the Champions League and Coppa Italia and nine points behind league leaders Inter.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pulisic scored just 26 goals during a difficult four-year spell at Chelsea following his £56 million ($73m) move from Borussia Dortmund. In the words of former Chelsea and now AC Milan teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the American has found a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/christian-pulisic-top-player-ruben-loftus-cheek-delighted-usmnt-star-new-lease-of-life-ac-milan-struggles-chelsea/bltf6a7775ce4f88785#cscaf61f651dcdb428" target="_blank">new lease of life</a> at the San Siro.

Despite his best efforts, Pulisic could not prevent Milan from falling out of the Coppa Italia at the hands of Atlanta on Wednesday. He and his team-mates will have to quickly regroup for a meeting with Jose Mourinho's Roma on Sunday.
