<p>France international Nkunku bid farewell to the Bundesliga in 2023 having hit 58 goals across his last two seasons at RB Leipzig. He was looking to embrace a new challenge at that stage, but a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/forgotten-premier-league-players-big-impact-2024-25/blta343d676c8ef529d" target="_blank">stint in England has not played out as planned</a>.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Struggles for form and fitness have seen Nkunku restricted to 42 appearances for Chelsea, with only five Premier League starts being taken in. The Blues are now <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/moves-chelsea-should-make-2025-january-transfer-window/blt66c9a0150079f649" target="_blank">looking to freshen up their attacking ranks</a>, with teenage frontman Mathys Tel a player in their sights.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>According to <a href="https://x.com/fabrizioromano/status/1878900419558363639?s=46&amp;t=MsImXKFxXpHhrx2kSTm6fA" target="_blank"><em>Fabrizio Romano</em></a>, Chelsea have held talks with Bayern regarding <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/nxgn-2024-best-wonderkids-football/bltc65fc7aa012056f4" target="_blank">19-year-old Frenchman Tel</a>. He has also spoken with Vincent Kompany about his future, as the youngster – with 81 appearances for the German giants to his name – is still determined to succeed at the Allianz Arena.</p>

<p>He may, however, form part of a swap switch that sees Nkunku take his place. That is because <a href="https://x.com/plettigoal/status/1878936024358764690?s=46&amp;t=MsImXKFxXpHhrx2kSTm6fA" target="_blank"><em>Florian Plettenberg</em></a> claims that a “verbal agreement” is in place, with “all terms” drawn up. Tel could be included in that package “to make the transfer easier”, with Bayern ready to complete a permanent deal.</p>
