<p>On Monday, a video went viral on social media showing a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/pgmol-video-storm-footage-allegedly-showing-premier-league-referee-david-coote-liverpool-jurgen-klopp-under-investigation/bltae0bbb3dbe3312b2#cs45915217594cb488" target="_blank">man alleged to be Premier League referee Coote</a> launching an X-rated rant against Liverpool and their former coach Jurgen Klopp. He was heard calling the Reds "sh*t" and labelling Klopp a “German c***”. Soon after the video surfaced online, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), who are responsible for the officiating of games across English football, suspended Coote while confirming they are looking into the matter.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Now <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/david-coote-fa-charge-use-of-german-jurgen-klopp-abuse-qhbkhc85t" target="_blank"><em>The Times</em></a> report that the match official could face an aggravated misconduct charge from the FA, who are also now investing the controversial video. As per current FA rules, an "aggravated breach" includes a reference "whether express or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin and/or nationality". Thus, allegedly referencing Klopp's nationality could land Coote in deep trouble.</p>

<p>Coote has been a referee in the English top-flight since April 2018. Last Saturday, he oversaw Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, which ensured that the Merseyside outfit went into the November international break five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.</p>
