<p>De Gea started in Fiorentina's 2-1 loss to Real Betis in the Conference League semi-final first leg on Thursday. Following the game, the veteran Spanish goalkeeper was asked about his future in Italy, and De Gea was quick to make his feelings clear regarding his potential continuation with the Viola. </p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>When asked about his future at the club by <em>FirenzeViola </em>(h/t <a href="https://www.getfootballnewsitaly.com/2025/david-de-gea-on-fiorentina-future-im-having-a-lot-of-fun-in-italian-football/" target="_blank">Football Italia</a>), De Gea said: "I take it day by day. I’m very happy in Florence and I’m having a lot of fun in Italian football. I hope to get the best with my group.” </p>

WHAT DAVID DE GEA SAID

<p>After departing Manchester United in 2023, De Gea took a year-long break from football before signing a one-year deal with Fiorentina in the summer of 2024. The 34-year-old has impressed in his debut Serie A campaign, prompting reports that the club plans to offer him a<a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/david-de-gea-pay-rise-fiorentina-decision-goalkeeper-man-utd-future-superb-season-serie-a/bltb1c1cafb07837872#cs853fe3a266f1377a" target="_blank"> new one-year contract with a significant pay rise</a>. However, no formal agreement has been reached yet.  </p>

<p>The Spaniard will next be seen in action on Sunday, May 4, when Fiorentina travel to the capital to take on an in-form Roma. Raffaele Palladino's men are currently in eighth position on the table, just three points behind the top four. </p>
