Divock Origi in limbo as ex-Liverpool striker fails to agree termination deal with AC Milan despite having no hope of playing under Max Allegri after being relegated to youth team all season

<p>Origi is tied to Milan until the end of the 2025-26 season but the club and the player want to terminate the contract a year early. As per <a href="https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Calciomercato/Milan/26-06-2025/origi-milan-la-trattativa-per-la-risoluzione-del-contratto.shtml?refresh_ce" target="_blank"><em>Gazzetta dello Sport</em></a>, the two parties are trying to find a common ground to agree on Origi's severance package. The Belgian has been a part of Milan's youth team, Milan Futuro, since 2024.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The former Liverpool striker reportedly had a meeting with Milan representatives to discuss the terms of termination of his contract. The Italian club have been paying around €5 million per year for Origi's services, a cost that they now look to take off the books. Having not reached an agreement on the severance package, a second round of talks will be held in the coming weeks. With Origi's early departure, the Italian club want to avoid wasting more money on players not part of the project.</p>

<p>Milan are running short of cash; the Italian club have been struggling financially due to FFP rules and dropping out of the top four in Serie A. For this reason, the club opted to sell Tijjani Reijnders and are further looking to manage the books with the sale of Rafael Leao.
