England's women's national team go into 2025 with one big aim - that to defend their European title. There have been some disappointments for the Lionesses lately, with them failing to secure a spot for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in 2024, but they remain one of the best teams on the planet, having reached the 2023 Women's World Cup final.
Before the 2025 European Championships come around, England have already successfully achieved some form of revenge over the team that beat them in that final, beating Spain in the 2025 edition of the UEFA Women's Nations League, which ran from February to June. That competition prepared them nicely for Euros, even if the Lionesses eventually finished second to La Roja in the group stage, thus failing to qualify for this autumn's finals.
Attention is now on that European title defence, which began on July 5. England were in the 'group of death' but were able to navigate that successfully, with the Netherlands the big fish to crash out. Now, can the Lionesses retain their trophy? They are certainly among the favourites to lift it.
