<p>FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed plans to have LAFC and Club America play each other to determine the final spot in the 2025 Club World Cup. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/we-all-won-it-together-we-defend-it-club-leon-protests-its-expulsion-from-the-club-world-cup-before-liga-mx-match/blte0a19e5970af2ed6" target="_blank">Their matchup comes after Mexico's Club Leon were removed from the tournament after violating multi-club ownership rules</a>.</p><p>The Mexican Club have appealed, and have a final hearing from the Court of Arbitration for Sport set for May 6.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p><a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/replace-expelled-club-leon-in-fifa-club-world-cup-chelsea-lie-in-wait-mls-handed-fresh-hope/blt9b40c437c39b5fc6" target="_blank">LAFC and Club America are the two teams</a> highest on the so-called "ranking pathway" for CONCACAF qualification. FIFA has said previously that was a potential plan, pending the outcome of the Leon appeal.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.tudn.com/futbol/fifa-mundial-de-clubes/infantino-confirma-juego-america-vs-lafc-si-tas-ratifica-expulsion-de-leon" target="_blank">FIFA president outlined the plans to reporters</a>: "What we're looking at is that, if the CAS upholds the Appeals Committee's decision, FIFA's intention is to play a playoff match between the team that lost the CONCACAF Champions League final, LAFC, and the next-place team in the rankings, which is America."</p>

WHAT GIANNI INFANTINO SAID

<p>There is no set date for the playoff between the two clubs. Leon's final hearing is scheduled for May 6, with the Club World Cup's opening fixture on June 14.</p>
