Florian Wirtz tells Liverpool he wants iconic shirt number at Anfield if he secures €150m transfer from Bayer Leverkusen

<p>Wirtz is reportedly seeking a move to Liverpool this summer, having already rejected approaches from Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The Bayer Leverkusen star is in search of a move away as he wants to face a 'new challenge' in his career. The <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/liverpool-130m-florian-wirtz-bid-rejected-bayer-leverkusen-transfer/blt03567b962e19b7af" target="_blank">Reds have already seen their first bid for the German rejected by Die Werkself</a> as the 2024 Bundesliga champions are demanding a transfer fee of €150 million (£127m/$172m).</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>As per <a href="https://x.com/Plettigoal/status/1929615455305556250" target="_blank">Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg</a>, Wirtz has told the club that he wants to wear the No. 10 shirt at Anfield if he joins the club, the same number that he wears at Bayer Leverkusen. The squad number currently belongs to World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Liverpool's number 10 jersey has previously been worn by Joe Cole, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane before it was passed on to Mac Allister at the start of the 2023/24 season. The iconic number has also been held by Reds legends Michael Owen, Jamie Redknapp, Jan Molby, Terry McDermott and John Toshack, among others.</p>
