'My heart went funny!' - Ian Wright reveals excruciating agony of watching Women's Champions League final as Arsenal stun Barcelona

<p>Arsenal won their second Women's Champions League title on Saturday in Lisbon, 18 years after their first continental crown, as they stunned giants Barcelona thanks to a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-femeni-player-ratings-vs-arsenal-barca-champions-league-domination-over-alexia-putellas-aitana-bonmati-uwcl/blt92ea85a0ed11832d" target="_blank">Stina Blackstenius winning goal in the 74th minute</a>. Gunners legend and pundit Wright was elated to see the girls bring European glory to the club as he said his 'heart went funny' while watching the final.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Speaking on <em>TNT Sports</em>, Wright said: "I can't believe it. This is the first time I've watched a game where my heart went funny. When we scored I was like: 'Oh my God, this is happening'. I'm delighted for them. Nobody gave us a chance really especially after the last couple of games. I was worried for them with the amount of goals that they've conceded.</p><p>"But today Leah [Williamson], Steph [Catley] at the back, everybody. They all did the job that needed to be done and that's what it needed against Barcelona. In the end I think they didn't turn and you have to take advantage of that and beat them. Once Stina came on we knew we could threaten them and stretch them out there."</p>

WHAT IAN WRIGHT SAID

<p>Wright also <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/ian-wright-arsenal-women-champions-league-victory-barcelona/blt4e00d0da7e8cd226#cs72a0161e67055eb3" target="_blank">took a dig at Mikel Arteta's men's team</a> as he said: "It's saved the club, the embarrassment of not getting anything this season when we played so well in the men. The ladies saved the club." </p><p>Arteta's side reached the semi-finals of the Champions League this year after convincingly beating reigning champions Real Madrid 5-1 on aggregate but they faltered in the last-four stage as Paris Saint-Germain made it to the tournament decider.</p>

<p>The men's side of the north London outfit will play their final game of the 2024-25 campaign on Sunday as they take on Southampton away from home.</p>
