Toney had been linked with a potential move in the January transfer window, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/brentford-100m-price-tag-chelsea-arsenal-target-ivan-toney-january-transfer-window/bltdec3b69c6d7b5e16" target="_blank">amid interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea</a>. His contract expires in 2025 but <a href="https://talksport.com/football/1597022/premier-league-latest-transfer-news-gossip-chelsea-man-united-liverpool-arsenal-tottenham-man-city/" target="_blank">TalkSPORT</a> now reports that the Bees are confident they will be able to convince the striker to extend his stay.

WHAT HAPPENED?

It remains to be seen if Toney will see out any new contract but the report states that a new deal will strengthen Brentford's negotiating position in the summer. The England international had been touted as a potential <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/arsenal-pay-gbp80m-ivan-toney-sell-players-ffp/blt0dec5868f4bedc43" target="_blank">£80m ($97m) signing</a> but that figure could rise if he does put pen to paper.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Toney is banned until January but has shown his goalscoring prowess in previous seasons. In 2022/23, before his suspension, he scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games.
