Joan Laporta 'charged with alleged fraud' for second time in one month over €50k payment as Barcelona president comes under fire again

<p>Per <a href="https://cadenaser.com/nacional/2024/10/19/joan-laporta-imputado-por-segunda-vez-en-un-mes-por-presunta-estafa-cadena-ser/" target="_blank"><em>Cadena Ser</em></a>, Laporta is being investigated for alleged fraud for the second time in a month. He and his former partner, Joan Olive, are accused of failing to return €50,000 to a private investor.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Between 2016 and 2018, Laporta and Olive are alleged to have raised money from several investors into a company they run. Now, they are being accused of failing to return the money that has been invested. They are already under investigation for failing to return €4.7m (£4m/$5m) to another complainant. </p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Laporta is alleged to have invested the money in a company called Reus, which ended up insolvent, and into a Hong Kong company with the intention of constructing a house in Asia. Now, the lawyer fronting the suit claims that he has never been told what happened to the money.</p>
