<p>Yamal has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/lamine-yamal-commits-his-future-to-barcelona-as-wonderkid-long-term-contract-lionel-messi/blt14079169ea63fc27" target="_blank">agreed a new contract with Barcelona</a>, shortly before turning 18 years of age this summer. But he was asked in an interview on <a href="https://www.cope.es/programas/el-partidazo-de-cope/noticias/lamine-yamal-noche-23-30h-juanma-castano-partidazo-cope-balon-oro-llegara-20250602_3162036.html" target="_blank"><em>El Partizado de COPE</em></a> whether he would ever consider playing for the club's fiercest rivals, Real Madrid.</p>

<p>Players rarely move directly between Barcelona and Real Madrid, but when they do it is usually extremely controversial. Luis Enrique was a Real Madrid player until a 1996 free transfer to Barcelona, while Los Blancos triggered Luis Figo's release clause to poach the Portuguese winger from Barcelona in a world record transfer in 2000. Figo was greeted with a pig's head thrown at him by fans on his first return to Camp Nou with Real Madrid.</p>

<p>Barcelona insinuated last year that Paris Saint-Germain had tried and failed with a world record €250 million (£211m/$277m) bid for Yamal, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/psg-barcelona-claims-250m-offer-lamine-yamal-transfer-war/blta2ec93dfdf365665#cs5307c307af600df4" target="_blank">although the French club "one million per cent" denied this</a>. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has also made <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/inter-sign-messi-250m-2006-laporta/ygao0f3qak5y1mg8ktja1sv1n" target="_blank">claims about turning down a similar bid from Inter in 2006 for Lionel Messi</a> during his first spell in office. </p>

It starts with a semi-final against France on June 5, followed by a final or third-place playoff against either Germany or Portugal three days later.
