After loosening the lids he took a run up before lobbing one high into the Trinity Road Stand. To the delight of Villa fans, the condiment chucker tripped on a kerb triggering another round of derisive applause.

Four West Midlands police officers were injured and 39 arrests were made in the ugly disorder that broke out around the stadium. Legia fans, apparently furious at a decision to reduce their ticket allocation, threw missiles at officers. Violence escalated to a point where Villa closed the away turnstiles on police advice.

The Villans guaranteed progress to the knockout phase of the Conference League with a 2-1 win. They now concentrate on the league with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday, hoping that flying mayonnaise is not something they'll have to contend with.
