Lionesses star Lauren James beaten to Women’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year by Khadija Shaw with Manchester City striker recognised for sensational WSL goal tally

Shaw enjoyed a stellar campaign with Manchester City during the 2023-24 WSL campaign. The striker netted an incredible 21 goals in 18 games to finish as the WSL's top scorer as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/emma-hayes-2023-24-wsl-winners-losers-chelsea-fifth-straight-title-man-utd-arsenal-underwhelm/blta58b1f366a4f6ec7" target="_self">City were just pipped to the title on the final day by Chelsea</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Shaw wrote her name into the history books last season with her goals. The City attacker became the first player in WSL history to record a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/bunny-shaw-makes-history-man-city-star-sets-incredible-wsl-record-goal-in-win-over-west-ham/bltd138ec05ddb07f13#cs497f598c21f18feb" target="_blank">goal involvement in 10 straight games</a>. Her exploits saw her scoop the Golden Boot and be named the Women's Super League Player of the Season. She's now followed that up with yet another well-deserved individual accolade. Shaw beat off competition from <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/lionesses-lauren-james-lauren-hemp-niamh-charles-pfa-women-players-player-shortlist/blt5932e23a5abf8987" target="_blank">Niamh Charles, Eric Cuthbert, Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp and James</a> to scoop the prize.

Shaw average a goal every 66 minutes in the WSL last season. She also bagged three assists for her side.
