Liverpool battled to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/liverpool-player-ratings-vs-bournemouth-cody-gakpo-darwin-nunez/blt2c40a492be2d77b3" target="_blank">a 2-1 win over the Cherries on the south coast on Wednesday</a>, despite the wind and rain that plagued the encounter. Gakpo and Nunez scored to send the Reds into the quarter-finals of the competition, but the conditions grounded their flight back north.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Per Liverpool Echo journalist <a href="https://twitter.com/ptgorst/status/1719835310895272035?s=20" target="_blank">Paul Gorst</a>, the Reds' flight back was cancelled, leaving the squad and staff stranded. Storm Ciaran brought strong winds and heavy rain to the United Kingdom overnight, with large parts of the country ordered to stay inside amid "danger to life" warnings. Liverpool, meanwhile, are not back in action until Sunday, when they face Luton Town away from home.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Reds have won the Carabao Cup on nine occasions and are aiming to repeat their 2021/22 success after overcoming the Cherries. They will face West Ham in the last-eight.
