Liverpool owners FSG rivalling Paris Saint-Germain in bid to acquire fallen Spanish side Malaga as Reds step up search for sister club

<p>Qatari businessman Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani currently owns 51 per cent of Malaga, who are currently in the Spanish second division, while the remaining 49 per cent is held by Spanish hotel and real estate group Blue Bay. The club management, however, is under judicial control, amid complex legal issues around a proposed sale of the club to local group BlueBay Hotels. Al-Thani is also being investigated for alleged misappropriation of club funds.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Amid legal turmoils at the Spanish team, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6239166/2025/03/29/liverpool-owner-fsg-malaga-deal/" target="_blank"><em>The Athletic</em></a> reports that FSG are in talks to acquire the ownership of the club. The John Henry-owned company <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/liverpool-owners-bordeaux-fenway-sports-group-multi-club-model/blt4a1b6d11e7083d87" target="_blank">were in advanced talks to take over at troubled French club Bordeaux</a> last summer, but talks fell through. Since then, FSG have been evaluating several European clubs to bring them under their umbrella to develop a multi-club model.</p>

<p>The report also adds that FSG will face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al Khelaifi, whose Qatar Sports Investments group have been keen on owning Los Boquerones since 2023. </p>
