The midfielder was linked with an £80 million ($102m) move to the reigning European and English champions but no move materialised. The Football Association has been investigating the Brazil international over allegations of suspicious gambling activities and that is said to have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/lucas-paqueta-man-city-85m-before-betting-investigation/blt67d21d11705745cf" target="_blank">played a role in City's pursuit ending</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Asked about the reported City interest, Paqueta said at a press conference: "I have a lot of respect for West Ham. I've had a very good season and this has helped me a lot in my evolution in the Premier League. Out of respect for them, I have to remain focused on my work."

WHAT PAQUETA SAID

The former Lyon star has been a key figure for the Hammers this season while the investigation has continued since August. He has, however, been absent from the national team since summer 2023 until he was brought back into the fold ahead of their friendly against England.
