Man Utd and Chelsea step up interest for RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons but hurdle remains

<p>According to Sport, via <a href="https://sportwitness.co.uk/manchester-united-and-chelsea-hold-meeting-with-agent-for-same-signing-player-determined-to-secure-summer-move/" target="_blank">Sport Witness</a>, United and Chelsea have recently held meetings with Simons' entourage to discuss a possible move, with the attacking midfielder eager to exit Leipzig this summer. Another option for the Dutchman is reportedly Bayern Munich, too.</p>

<p>However, the Spanish publication adds that United, Chelsea, and Bayern are not keen on paying Simons' high price tag, which is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/rb-leipzig-ready-cash-in-xavi-simons-dutch-attacker-requests-summer-transfer/blt8241efe426545a8e#cs5fb195ee59551bfc" target="_blank">rumoured to be around €70 million (£60m)</a>. That is said to have <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/xavi-simons-shock-barcelona-return-fears-cant-sign-luis-diaz-dutch-attacker-determined-leave-rb-leipzig/blte587b6f95f60a55d" target="_blank">put off Barcelona</a>, who cannot afford the 22-year-old. </p>

<p>Simons, who only signed for Leipzig permanently earlier this year after repeated loan spells from Paris Saint-Germain, seems unlikely to join Chelsea and United as the former have a lot of attacking options and the latter are pursuing Bryan Mbeumo after signing Matheus Cunha.</p>
