Man Utd legend Gary Neville forced to close Leeds restaurant as glitzy venue racks up £1m debt and goes into liquidation

<p>Neville set up the restaurant in 2014 with chef Michael O’Hare but a decade on it has now gone into liquidation with estimated debts of over £1m, including £519,000 owed in taxes, according to <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/31574416/gary-neville-forced-shut-restaurant-1m-debt/" target="_blank"><em>The Sun</em></a>. Documents filed with Companies House reveal the business behind the restaurant has estimated total debts of £993,684 and that Neville's company Relentless Leisure, which holds a 50% stake, is owed £366,848. The files also reveal that Neville's directorship came to an end in September.</p><p></p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Neville posted about the restaurant just seven months ago on social media. He wrote: "A few years ago I signed one of the most instinctive and incredible deals that I've ever done when I went into partnership with Michael O'Hare on “The Man Behind The Curtain” restaurant in Leeds. At the end of a meal I had at the restaurant, Michael presented me with the bill, but it wasn’t a normal bill, it was a bill that had a figure on it accompanied with a note that said this will give you 50% of the restaurant. From that moment on I was the co-owner of a Michelin star restaurant in Leeds! Fast forward to today and it's taken a brave and courageous decision for Michael to give up his Michelin star and open a new restaurant, Psycho Sandbar, that I went to earlier on in the week. It's a sensational restaurant with an unbelievable experience and a brilliant job from Michael and his team. If you ever get the chance to visit, I highly recommend it.”</p>

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

<p>The restaurant is just one of Neville's many business interests that he has become involved in after hanging up his boots in 2011 following an incredible career with Manchester United. The former defender also famously co-runs the luxurious Hotel Football which is next to Old Trafford. He also owns a 40 per cent share in the Stock Exchange development, close to Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, along with former United team-mate Ryan Giggs. Neville business interests also include property development, hotels and pubs, while the 49-year-old also regularly appears on television as a pundit and has previously featured on Dragon's Den and Masterchef too.</p>

<p>Neville is likely to be back on commentary duty at the weekend with the Premier League serving up some interesting fixtures. Champions Manchester City will look to snap a three-match losing streak against Brighton, leaders Liverpool take on Aston Villa and Arsenal head to Chelsea.
