The Spain U21 international initially left United on loan in January of 2024 but Benfica signed him permanently in the summer for a €6 million (£5m) fee. Now, the Red Devils are said to be considering a swoop to re-sign the left-back, in case they fail to agree a deal for Patrick Dorgu of Lecce.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Benfica value Carreras at around £17m ($21m) but any deal may be dependant on whether they can convince Dorgu to make the move to Old Trafford. <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-gbp25m-bid-for-lecce-wing-back-patrick-dorgu-flop-antony-real-betis/bltc853a3949834a2e8#cs4a1556d9697d0cba" target="_blank">They have submitted a £25m ($31m) bid for the left-back</a> and clearly view the full-back position as a priority under Ruben Amorim.</p>

<p>Since moving to Benfica, Carreras has made 47 first-team appearances for the club, scoring four goals and registering five assists. He also made 47 appearances for United's Under-21 team, but never made his first-team debut.</p>
