Man Utd warned Liam Delap is NOT an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee as Ruben Amorim urged to go all out for Victor Osimhen instead

<p>Former United midfielder Darron Gibson is wary about his old side signing Ipswich Town striker Delap, as he says the 22-year-old is not an improvement on struggling Red Devils forwards Hojlund and Zirkzee. He believes Ruben Amorim's side need an established striker like Napoli number nine Osimhen.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>He told <a href="https://www.aceodds.com/articles/darron-gibson-liam-delap-manchester-united.html" target="_blank">AceOdds</a>: “Honestly? I don’t think Liam Delap is an upgrade on Zirkzee or Hojlund. They’re both so young and they’ve come in at a difficult time. Normally young strikers would have a more experienced striker to learn from and bounce off them. If United had bought Harry Kane two summers ago I think Hojlund or Zirkzee would be different players learning from him. I don’t mean to take anything away from Delap but I don’t think he’s an upgrade. Rio [Ferdinand] spoke about the pressure at United recently and how players don’t realise how difficult it is. Right now Delap is at Ipswich and there’s not much pressure on him. He’s playing with freedom but it’s different at United. They need an established striker. Victor Osimhen would be my top target. He scores goals and he’s more experienced. He can teach the younger lads.”</p>

WHAT GIBSON SAID

<p>United are in the race for Delap, who has a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-in/lists/man-utd-agree-deal-sign-liam-delap-waiting-decision-ipswich-star-chelsea-chasing-gbp30m-striker/bltd6bfd7b5411c16db" target="_blank">£30 million ($40m) relegation release clause</a> at recently demoted Ipswich. It seems they are not sold on <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/joshua-zirkzee-man-utd-exit-reaches-juventus-agreement-thiago-motta/blt173e98436fd2faf4" target="_blank">Zirkzee</a> and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/rasmus-hojlund-offered-man-utd-escape-offer-struggling-dane-back-italy-swap-deal-premier-league/blt4569b048baf4faed" target="_blank">Hojlund</a> as reports continually suggest they may be sold if good replacements can come in. United have endured a dreadful season, so signing Galatasaray loanee Osimhen may be out of their reach, but the Nigerian would most likely improve their lukewarm attack.</p>
