<p>Zubimendi looked all set to move to the Anfield club during the summer transfer window as the Reds <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/liverpool-exploring-martin-zubimendi-transfer-arne-slot-stiff-competition-from-man-utd/bltd2f7050e2b147d95" target="_blank">declared their intention to trigger the release clause in the Real Sociedad star's contract</a>. However, the move soon <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/martin-zubimendi-must-trigger-own-eur60m-release-clause-real-sociedad-pressure-liverpool/blt343753343e922ebd" target="_blank">fell apart as Zubimendi was told he would have to activate the clause</a> on his own and he <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/liverpool-massive-blow-real-sociedad-martin-zubimendi-final-decision-eur60m-transfer/blta9de8d0b30d97541" target="_blank">opted to stay with the Basque side for at least another season</a>.</p>

<p>Zubimendi explained that he decided to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/martin-zubimendi-breaks-silence-on-liverpool-transfer-snub-spain-star-no-pressure-to-leave-real-sociedad/blt18c697407b61b4ac" target="_blank">remain with Sociedad because the club is "my life"</a>, while Liverpool coach Arne Slot said the Premier League team <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/liverpool-boss-arne-slot-martin-zubimendi-summer-transfer-saga/blt0d12bcd9c4d691a8" target="_blank">have "moved on" from the saga as Ryan Gravenberch has been performing well</a> in the defensive midfield role.</p>

<p>While Liverpool are off to a good start this season, Zubimendi and Sociedad are struggling, having won only one of their eight La Liga matches so far. Despite his team's plight, the Spain international says he has no regrets.</p><p>"My philosophy is to do at home at all times what comes from within. So far it has worked out well for me. WHAT ZUBIMENDI SAID

<p>La Real picked up their first win of the season when they beat Valencia 3-0 at the weekend. They will hope to make it consecutive victories when they take on Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday. Liverpool, meanwhile, come up against Bologna on Wednesday in the Champions League.</p>
