<p>Depay's move to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in January 2023 was seen as a fresh start for the talented forward. The transfer, worth €4 million (£3.41m/$4.34m), came after a challenging period at the Catalan club where he struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. However, things did not improve much and the Dutch forward, who had a contract set to expire in 2025, wrote a heartfelt post on social media expressing his gratitude towards the fans and staff for their support - indicating that his time at the Wanda Metropolitano is over.</p>

WHAT DEPAY SAID

<p>Despite flashes of brilliance, Depay's impact was limited by competition for places and injuries. Over the course of his stay, he scored nine goals in 31 league appearances, with only 12 starts. His performance was overshadowed by the consistent form of fellow forwards Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann, making it difficult for Depay to cement his place in the team.</p>
