Michail Antonio's first words after horror car crash revealed by dog walker who found West Ham star 'in big trouble'

<p>The Premier League striker, who has been with the Hammers since 2015, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/west-ham-michail-antonio-car-crash-statement-thoughts-prayers/blt94119665e13bdb70" target="_blank">had to be cut from the wreckage of his £260,000 Ferrari FF after colliding with a tree</a> in Theydon Bois, Essex. With the damage to his car taken into account, the 34-year-old can be considered lucky to still be alive.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Unsurprisingly, Antonio was left dazed and confused by the scary incident, with Samuel Woods – a local who had been walking his dog in Epping Forest – telling <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/32188526/west-ham-michail-antonio-first-words-ferrari-crash/ " target="_blank"><em>The Sun</em></a> of the scene that he found when pulling over to check on what he initially thought was an abandoned vehicle: “I said to him ‘hello’ to see if anyone was alive. I heard sirens and told him that help was on its way. He was so disorientated. He said, ‘Where am I? What’s going on? What car am I in?’ The paramedics got there really fast. I couldn’t believe what happened. The car smelt of petrol.”</p><p>Woods went on to say: “I looked at him and thought, ‘He’s in big trouble’. I just said, ‘You’ve had an accident’. He didn’t reply. He was looking around trying to make sense of what I just said. He was sitting in the passenger side.”</p>

WHAT MAN THAT FOUND ANTONIO SAID

<p>It <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/michail-antonio-wreckage-horror-car-crash-trapped-west-ham-ex-wife-hospital/blt9835abab069c966d" target="_blank">took almost an hour for firefighters to cut Antonio from his mangled car</a>, with the Hammers forward then airlifted to hospital. He has since <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/michail-antonio-undergoes-surgery-on-leg-fracture-as-west-ham-offer-update-on-striker-after-horrific-car-crash/blt859cb6c2c36b4034" target="_blank">undergone surgery on a badly broken leg</a> and is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/michail-antonio-out-of-action-for-at-least-a-year-undergoing-surgery-broken-leg-horror-car-smash/bltaba24477f3852687" target="_blank">expected to be out of action for at least a year</a>.</p>

Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.
