Egypt opened the scoring after just two minutes. Mohamed Salah failed to control a ball into the box and Mostafa Mohamed was able to spin and send a powerful effort into the bottom corner.Trezeguet almost added a second soon after but was only able to strike the base of the post with a fierce low drive.Mozambique levelled proceedings, scoring their first goal at the AFCON in 14 years, early in the second half, as Witi netted a superb header to stun Egypt.And just a minute later, Clesio Bauque added a second for Mozambique to turn the game completely on its head, sprinting beyond a last-ditch slide tackle from Ahmed Hegazi and finishing coolly into the corner.With just eight minutes remaining, the ball dropped to Salah in the area, but he shanked his volley wide, with a finish more befitting a defender.In injury time, Egypt were given a shock reprieve, as a penalty was awarded after Mohamed was brought down in the area, following a lengthy VAR check.Salah stepped up and scored, getting Egypt out of jail late on, but the final result papered over the cracks of a poor performance from the Liverpool man and his national team.

This is a side ranked 111th in the world by FIFA, that had gone 14 years without scoring a goal in the AFCON, and they took on an Egyptian team stuffed with talent, and gave everything they could. To take a point is a stunning achievement, even with the late penalty blow, but they will likely have mixed emotions after coming so close to their first-ever win at the tournament.

THE MVP

It has to be Salah. The Liverpool ace's most telling contribution was his penalty late on and, while he did score from 12 yards, the remainder of the 90-odd minutes saw him as a peripheral figure, barely affecting the game, and failing to truly test the Mozambique backline. Given his status as one of the best players in the world, scoring a penalty barely makes up for a dismal all-round performance.

THE BIG LOSER

Egypt will attempt to get their first win against Ghana on Thursday, which could prove to be another tough test for Salah and Co. Mozambique's next fixture comes against Cape Verde on Friday.
