Nico Williams: Chelsea identify new transfer target after Michael Olise rejects Blues for Bayern Munich

The Blues held talks with Crystal Palace over a possible transfer of their star forward Olise, however, the player eventually <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/chelsea-michael-olise-crystal-palace-bayern-munich-move-harry-kane/bltc0e30d9892b76dae#csf50a0685713892f1" target="_blank">decided to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich</a>. After missing out on their primary transfer target, Chelsea have now shifted their focus to Athletic Club and Spain international winger Williams, according to Sky Sports (via <a href="https://x.com/DiMarzio/status/1804850003082465412" target="_blank">Gianluca Di Marzio</a>).

WHAT HAPPENED?

Other than the West London side, Barcelona have also shown interest in the player after newly appointed manager Hansi Flick reportedly urged the Catalan giants to sign the talented attacker. The player, however, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/nico-williams-statement-amid-reports-barcelona-aim-to-sign-athletic-club-star/bltf3c99240a7f0df20#csc10d221eafbdd370" target="_blank">recently pledged his loyalty to the Basque club</a> as he claimed he is happy to see out his existing contract which runs until 2027.

The 21-year-old <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/nico-williams-chelsea-arsenal-incredible-athletic-club-winger/blt76f346e354e3a4bb" target="_blank">enjoyed a stellar run of form</a> in the 2023/24 season having scored eight goals and provided 19 assists in 37 matches across all competitions. He also played a key role in his club winning the Cope del Rey title.
