Renovation work has begun at <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-carrington-training-ground-upgrade-sir-jim-ratcliffe-admits-standards-fallen-glazer-ownership/bltb9fdc55c64d89ec4#csa3f7e8fbac180a17" target="_blank">Carrington to refurbish the club's training ground</a> and is expected to continue throughout the 2024-25 season. According to the <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jun/25/manchester-united-women-moved-out-of-training-building-to-accommodate-men-carrington" target="_blank">Guardian</a>, the works mean the women's team have been forced out of their facilities and moved into "portable buildings." The men's team will use the women's buildings while their own are being revamped.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The news has not gone down well with the Manchester United's women's team, with staff said to be "disappointed" by the decision. A source also told the newspaper that the move will fuel a "growing sense that the women’s team are not perceived as a priority." <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-sir-jim-ratcliffe-underperforming-womens-team-ineos/bltd5b6f04e7023f37a#cs3d5eab29c892e247" target="_blank">Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already admitted that he's been focused on the men's team</a> and so hasn't gone into any plans for the women's team in any great detail.United are set to wave goodbye to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/mary-earps-man-utd-lionesses-paris-saint-germain-transfer/blt6d51f603e4355e68" target="_blank">goalkeeper Mary Earps, who is to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer</a> after failing to agree a new contract with the Red Devils, and also have several other key players out of contract this summer.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Manchester United said the following when announcing plans to update Carrington: "The renovation work will begin on Monday and is expected to last for the duration of the 2024/25 season. The initial focus will be on the gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery areas, with a design emphasis on creating more space for collaboration and innovation among players and staff."Temporary adaptations will be made to the rest of the Carrington site to ensure players and staff from all our teams can continue to operate successfully next season."This latest phase of development at Carrington follows the opening of the £10 million state-of-the-art women’s and Academy building last summer – meaning more than £60 million will have been invested in creating a truly integrated facility for our entire football department over the past two years."

WHAT MAN UTD SAID

Ratcliffe explained the decision to modernise the club's facilities: "We want to create a world class environment for our teams to win. When we conducted a thorough review of the Carrington training facilities and met with our men’s first team players, it was clear the standards had fallen below some of our peers. This project will ensure Manchester United’s training ground is once more renovated to the highest standards."

WHAT RATCLIFFE SAID

United men's team are due back for pre-season in July ahead of their first Premier League game of the season on <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-fixtures-2024-25-premier-league/blt5e4da615e687631f" target="_blank">August 16 against Fulham at Old Trafford</a>. The women's team will return later with the new Women's Super League season not due to kick off until the weekend of 21-22 September.
