<p><a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/what-erling-haaland-new-10-year-man-city-contract-means-football-ffp-charge-pep-guardiola-premier-league-record-real-madrid/blt99ee793829a6f46e" target="_blank">Haaland penned a record-breaking nine-and-a-half-year contract last week</a> as he committed the best years of his career to the Premier League champions. Despite the club being fifth in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, and also <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-city-115-charges-explained-alleged-ffp-breaches-premier-league/blt5ed11b8b09706007" target="_blank">fighting a legal battle over their alleged 115 breaches of Financial Fair Play rules</a>, Haaland put pen to paper, and he admits the deal is "not normal".</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The Norway international has scored 22 goals in 29 games in all competitions this season and he maintains that he is confident City will avoid punishment, as he believes the club "know what they are doing". Whether that pans out, and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-city-hearing-115-charges-verdict-premier-league-champions-financial-rules-breaches/blt4891bd9479df4509" target="_blank">City avoid the potential punishment of a points deduction or even relegation</a>, remains to be seen. </p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Asked if he still has a "way out" if City are found guilty of breaking FFP rules, Haaland told reporters: "I haven't thought of that or anything. I'm confident that the club know what they're doing.</p><p>"In the end, I really don't think I should speak too much about this because I've [only] been here for two-and-a-half years. I'm confident that the club knows what they're doing.</p><p>"Of course it [contract length] is a bit unusual. It's not normal. That's also something I like. In the end it felt good for both parties. It was an easy choice."</p>

WHAT HAALAND SAID

<p>City face Paris Saint-Germain in a huge Champions League tie on Wednesday evening. City are currently 24th in the league phase - the final position from which a club can qualify for the play-offs - and PSG are 26th, which means they are staring down the barrel of elimination.</p>
