<p>Shortly after reports emerged of the 30-year-old giving <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/is-it-over-for-bruno-fernandes-man-utd-captain-seriously-considers-al-hilal-move-100m-ruben-amorim-plea/bltfbf74ecd4e5d5618" target="_blank">serious consideration to quitting United and joining Al-Hilal</a> in a lucrative offer (£100m/$134.6m), club legend Scholes has urged his old team to sell the Portuguese this summer. The ex-England international also believes the midfielder "confuses" Ruben Amorim's system, so tactically it may be best to move him on, too.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>He said on the <a href=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUJ8qv_Fcq0&amp;t=2129s" target="_blank">Overlap Fan Debate</a>: "They are talking about £100m for him. Man United cannot say no to that.“You know when you talk about this system as well, I know he has been brilliant and carried the team on his back but where does he play? What is his position? Do you see him as a number 10? Do you see him as a holding midfielder? He almost confuses the whole system because he doesn’t have that one position for him. I mean he has been brilliant don’t get me wrong. But when you’re getting £100m for him you snap their hand off and take it."</p>

WHAT SCHOLES SAID

<p>While he may not be everyone's cup of tea, Fernandes has been United's best player in recent seasons. Since joining from Sporting CP in 2020, he has scored 98 goals and notched 87 assists in 290 games - and this season, without his efforts, the Red Devils could have been in relegation trouble. While head coach <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/ruben-amorim-reveals-stance-bruno-fernandes-future-man-utd-boss-makes-surprise-admission-summer-transfer-plans/blt438ac5e7680cc0eb" target="_blank">Amorim does not want him to go</a>, that kind of money may be too good to refuse.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>After Fernandes' representatives met with Al-Hilal officials, it remains to be seen if the influential Portugal international, whose Old Trafford contract runs until 2027, will still be a United player next season.</p>
