WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>City have been in poor form in recent weeks and have failed to win their last four games. The defeat to Villa has followed draws with Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, and has left them six points behind leaders Arsenal. They are also now two points behind fourth-placed Villa, who leapfrogged them in the table. </p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The two shots recorded by City came within seconds of each other, as Erling Haaland first saw a shot and then a header saved by Emiliano Martinez. After the 11th minute, the champions failed to test the opposition goalkeeper, and Leon Bailey's goal proved decisive.</p>
