Play-offs in the WSL?! Top flight set to consider adopting end-of-season format used in France with desire for champions to play NWSL winners

<p><a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2025/04/16/wsl-title-play-offs-format-revamp/" target="_blank">The Telegraph</a> reports that the Women's Professional Leagues Ltd is considering introducing title play-offs from the 2026/27 season, which may be similar to the four-team system that the French top-flight uses. </p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The report adds that there is a desire for the WSL champions to then play a match against the winners of the National Women's Soccer League. This comes at a time when reports have surfaced that the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/women-super-league-removing-relegation-radical-proposal-english-football/blt40f67c445119f007" target="_blank">WPLL is considering removing relegation from the WSL</a> and Women's Championship as women's football braces itself for big changes.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The Telegraph adds that another proposal involves the WSL splitting into two smaller divisions each season once each team have played each other home and away. This is a similar system to the one in place in Scotland.</p>
