<p>What was meant to be a festive buildup to the Conference League final in Wroclaw descended into chaos as violent clashes broke out between supporters of the two teams. The situation quickly spiralled, prompting law enforcement to intervene forcefully.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>In response to the escalating violence, authorities dispatched officers in riot gear and military-style uniforms to the heart of Wroclaw. As rival fans launched bottles, smoke bombs, and other projectiles, police forces resorted to using shields and water cannons to control the unrest. Witnesses described the area as a "war zone," with broken glass and overturned furniture littering the cobbled streets.</p>

<p>Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk did not hold back in his condemnation of the violence. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Tusk praised the swift and firm actions of local law enforcement and wrote: "Zero tolerance for violence on our streets! I thank the police for their decisive actions against the hooligans in Chelsea and Betis shirts in Wroclaw. We warn you: if necessary, the police will be even more ruthless today!”</p><p>The police has also released a statement which read: "Further police security measures… and the arrest of 28 participants in today’s events that took place in the Market Square. Tens of thousands of people came to Wroclaw to take part in the final match of the UEFA Conference League at the city stadium and other accompanying events. Such a large sports event has not been held in our city for a long time, unfortunately, in addition to sports emotions, some participants in the events showed aggression towards fans of the opposing team.</p><p>"After 5:00 PM on the Wroclaw Market Square, in connection with the previous negative behavior of fans and the clash of several hundred people from both teams, arrests of fans involved in this incident are ongoing. The police quickly took action and restored the violated legal order, and now they continue to act so that others can safely participate in this great celebration of sports. At this moment, we can confirm the arrest of 28 participants in the incident. No one will escape legal responsibility and the police will react decisively and appropriately to the situation."</p>

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

<p>One man, identified by his Chelsea tattoo and club badge, was seen with blood on his face following a confrontation with a group of individuals believed to be Betis supporters. In one particularly disturbing image, he appeared to be struck by an attacker wielding a belt.</p><p>Police were also seen using pepper spray to subdue some Chelsea fans during the chaos. Multiple reports suggest that the violence flared up again on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the scheduled kickoff, further straining police resources and raising concerns about matchday security.</p>
