<p>On Thursday, the <a href="https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/4271553/agreement-to-renew-raphinhas-contract-to-2028" target="_blank">Blaugrana announced</a> the Brazilian had extended his contract by a further year to cap off a stellar season for the 28-year-old, which has included scoring 34 goals and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-player-ratings-espanyol-lamine-yamal-fermin-lopez/blt61c8cd8762003011" target="_blank">winning La Liga</a> and the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/barcelona-player-ratings-real-madrid-jules-kounde-pedri-lamine-yamal-copa-del-rey/blt1527f1dc76e69989" target="_blank">Copa del Rey</a>.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>This turnaround is all the more remarkable as Raphinha had an underwhelming first two seasons at Barcelona and admitted he <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/raphinha-quit-barcelona-mentally-comfortable-ballon-d-or-frontrunner-hansi-flick/blt1ac69d9cbb860626#cs4054a067d0dfd141" target="_blank">nearly quit the club</a> before Hansi Flick's arrival last summer. Now he is a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/revealed-when-2025-ballon-d-or-winner-will-be-ousmane-dembele-barcelona-lamine-yamal-raphinha-prestigious-award/blt58ef5a97cbaa2f5c" target="_blank">Ballon d'Or contender</a>, is Barca's skipper, and is in the best form of his life.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Former Leeds United star Raphinha scored 10 goals and bagged 12 assists in the 2022/23 campaign for Barca, before notching 10 goals and 13 assists the following season. This term, though, he has 34 goals and 25 assists in just 56 games in all competitions. </p>
