Real Madrid choose two new captains following departures of Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez

<p>Vinicius and Courtois have been added to Real Madrid's captaincy group, filling two vacancies that had been left by Modric and Vazquez. Modric, who has <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/luka-modric-feels-the-fire-inside-me-explains-why-he-picked-ac-milan-after-leaving-real-madrid/bltba1c1f7fdfd6283c" target="_blank">signed a one-year deal with AC Milan</a>, was previously club captain and that honour has now been passed to right-back Dani Carvajal, who missed most of last season after suffering a cruciate ligament tear.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Vinicius and Courtois have been prominent voices in the Real Madrid squad for some time now and they sit fourth and third in the captaincy queue respectively, with midfielder Federico Valverde second behind Carvajal. According to <a href="https://as.com/futbol/primera/la-herencia-del-brazalete-estos-son-los-capitanes-del-real-madrid-en-la-2025-26-n/" target="_blank"><em>AS</em></a>, the decision was made by club officials in conjunction with head coach Xabi Alonso.</p>
