Mbappe scored the second goal for <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/real-madrid-player-ratings-vs-alaves-kylian-mbappe-vinicius-rodrygo/blt949a1d9ee8a75e83" target="_blank">Los Blancos in a 3-2 win over Alaves</a> on Tuesday evening but asked to be substituted in the 80th minute after complaining of discomfort in his left leg. Although Real coach Carlo Ancelotti initially downplayed the situation, referring to it as "a knock", medical tests conducted by the club's doctors confirmed that the injury is more serious.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Real Madrid put out a <a href="https://www.realmadrid.com/es-ES/noticias/futbol/primer-equipo/partes-medicos/parte-medico-de-mbappe-25-09-2024" target="_blank">statement</a> regarding Mbappe's injury, which read: "Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg. Pending evolution."

WHAT REAL MADRID SAID

According to <a href="https://x.com/MarioCortegana/status/1838898976226988041" target="_blank">The Athletic</a>, Mbappe is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks, which means that he will be <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/kylian-mbappe-injury-update-real-madrid-sweating-over-summer-signing-fitness-la-liga-win-alaves/bltd234c0534d028b5b#csa9a577a2458aa1e8" target="_blank">unavailable for Real's trip to the Wanda Metropolitano </a>on Sunday to take on bitter rivals Atletico Madrid. He is also expected to miss next week's Champions League clash against Lille and a La Liga fixture against Villarreal on October 6. Moreover, Mbappe will likely continue his recovery at Valdebebas during the October international break, in which case he won't play any part in France's next two Nations League fixtures against Israel and Belgium.

Mbappe has netted five goals in La Liga in seven appearances since his summer move to Real, after being handed a contract that reportedly makes him the highest-paid player in the squad. Now, Carlo Ancelotti must adjust his tactics accordingly for the Madrid derby, which will be a tough test away from home.
