<p>Ruben Amorim named the Swedish defender in United's matchday squad against Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final fixture. Lindelof was on the bench in the first half, but he <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/noussair-mazraoui-victor-lindelof-immediate-man-utd-returns-wolves-leaving-lyon-game-half-time-personal-problems/blte0b0114f69bbe621#cs8d27f60b8ac230bf" target="_blank">had to leave the Stadium at half-time due to a family emergency</a>. While the centre-back returned to action for the Red Devils and captained the side in their 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League last Sunday, the player's wife has revealed the horrific reason that led him to leave the stadium midway through the game. </p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>On social media, Lindelof's wife Maja wrote: "An hour before the [Lyon] game started, our babysitter called and said they were in an ambulance on the way to hospital. My youngest son Francis, had split his entire head open. He had been chasing his big brother Ted Louie at home and fallen into our glass staircase. His forehead was in two parts. He was in hospital both Thursday and Friday.</p><p>"He had to have plastic surgery to put his forehead back together. He was put under anaesthetic. It is the first time I have experienced something like this happening with one of my children. It was incredibly unpleasant, and not something I want to experience again. The operation went well, and Francis is back on track. He is a Viking, and back to normal. Everyone was so worried, but he continues his life as if nothing has happened. The doctors say he will have a big scar on his forehead. But never mind - I'm just happy that it went so well."</p>

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

<p>The Lindelofs have been married since 2018 and have two children. The couple are expecting a third child later this year. The <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/marcus-rashford-antony-players-man-utd-ship-out-ruben-amorim-succeed-erik-ten-hag-failed/blt8c91aacdca3355af#cs40f55f656c7d8734" target="_blank">30-year-old defender's future at Old Trafford looks uncertain</a> as the club are yet to negotiate a new deal with the player, whose current contract expires after June 2025.</p>

<p>Amorim's men will be back in action next Sunday in the Premier League as they take on Bournemouth before travelling to Spain to face Athletic Club in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final clash on May 1. </p>
