<p>Rashford and Garnacho were both left out as Amorim announced his 19-man squad for the Manchester derby at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Rashford was omitted from the team just three days after a dreadful performance against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. Garnacho, too, missed out on playing against City as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/misery-mason-mount-injury-plagued-man-utd-midfielder-limps-out-man-city-clash-12-minutes-ruben-amorim-forced-to-tweak-gameplan/bltf6aadeb7ff038b03" target="_blank">Mason Mount</a> and Amad Diallo partnered Rasmus Hojlund in the front three.</p><p></p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>Rashford's exclusion was especially significant as he was <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/man-utd-marcus-rashford-red-devil-gbp40m-january-transfer-window/blt8190fc3725a2e336" target="_blank">recently linked with a move away from the club</a>. Amorim received support from club legend and pundit Roy Keane, who fully backed the decision to drop two underperforming players in a crucial encounter.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Speaking on <em>Sky Sports</em>, the Irishman said: "It is a big call. He has obviously seen something he doesn't like. But for those who have watched Manchester United recently, it's not a big surprise because both players have been poor. He has said 'enough is enough'. It's a big call, but I like to see it - he has put down a marker."</p><p>He added: "A move for Marcus [Rashford] would suit the player – a new challenge for him. He’s been there a long time. When you’re at a big club and your attitude is not right – and it hasn’t been great recently – sometimes it’s good to part ways."</p><p></p>
