Amorim has emerged as the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp after the German tactician announced his intention to <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/jurgen-klopp-leaving-liverpool-reds-boss-bombshell-announcement-quitting-role-shock-video/bltba3be51866395e61#csb4b7ff5f08959f11" target="_blank">leave at the end of the season</a>. There had been fevered speculation that the Reds would turn to Xabi Alonso, their former midfielder, but the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/xabi-alonso-decision-rejects-bayern-munich-liverpool-bayer-leverkusen-stay/blt3f58b772b9b209a9" target="_blank">Bayer Leverkusen boss has since confirmed that he will remain at the BayArena</a>. As a result, focus has shifted towards Amorim, with Sporting currently one point clear of Benfica at the top of the Portuguese Liga NOS.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Amorim has a release clause in his contract that fee has gradually dropped during his time in charge and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/bargain-fee-liverpool-pay-sporting-cp-ruben-amorim-xabi-alonso-snub-revealed/blt40593851b09babc7" target="_blank">now stands at around £13 million ($16m)</a>. However, he is remaining quiet on the potential of a switch and issued a defiant response when asked about the prospect of moving to Anfield.

Amorim told reporters: “Right now, I’m focused on Sporting. I’m very proud to be Sporting’s coach. We’re focused on winning titles. You’ll see in the end. I have a contract and I’m very happy here. That’s the most important thing, more than contracts, I’m very happy here. The focus is on beating Benfica in the Portuguese Cup.”
