WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>While the show’s title remains a closely guarded secret, insiders have confirmed to the Mail that it will not return under the Sunday Supplement name. Despite the rebrand, the structure of the programme will remain largely the same. Viewers can expect a weekly round-up of Premier League headlines, combined with in-depth analysis and commentary from leading journalists and insiders within the sport.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>The original programme first hit television screens in 1999 under the name Hold The Back Page, eventually evolving into Sunday Supplement. The show became a Sunday morning ritual for fans eager to hear the opinions of respected sports writers on the weekend’s most pressing football topics. The late Jimmy Hill, a legendary football figure, was the show’s inaugural host. He typically led lively discussions alongside a rotating panel of three national newspaper journalists.  </p><p>In 2020, the programme achieved a major milestone when Jacqui Oatley took the reins as its first female presenter. However, just months into her tenure, the show was discontinued. Sky cited the increasingly congested football calendar brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason behind its cancellation. </p>
