<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/charlotte-fc-s-rumored-pursuit-of-newcastle-united-winger-miguel-almiron-ends/blt30ce89bf8ab83cff" target="_blank">GOAL confirmed during the summer that Charlotte FC </a>made a move for Miguel Almirón, but the deal fell apart after the club couldn't come to terms with Newcastle. After seeing a deal for Dutch international Calvin Stengs fall short, the club agreed to personal terms with Almiron, but Newcastle's valuation of the midfielder proved too high for Charlotte at the time.Newcastle were demanding a fee of around $20 million, sources confirmed to GOAL, but Charlotte were only willing to pay $10 million. The Magpies will likely be willing to accept Charlotte's bid this time around, along with add-ons. Almiron, who is looking more likely to leave Newcastle this winter, has played just 119 minutes this season.No deal is imminent, but the club remains interested in signing the Paraguayan international.<a href="https://www.givemesport.com/charlotte-fc-still-in-talks-for-newcastles-miguel-almiron-sources/" target="_blank">GiveMeSport</a> was first to report Charlotte's continued pursuit of Almiron.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Charlotte has plenty of roster flexibility this summer and, based on what we've seen, plenty of ambition. Almiron wasn't the only big name the club chased this summer as Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso was also pursued. Neither deal ultimately came to fruition, with Charlotte instead pivoting to sign Pep Biel on a short-term loan. Biel has since departed, opening up a Designated Player slot to sign Almiron or someone else.The club's current DPs are Liel Abada and Karol Swiderski.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Charlotte FC made it to the MLS Cup Playoffs this season after finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference, although they lost to Orlando City in the first round.
