WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The Spirit suffered a 1-0 defeat in Seattle, with the game-winner scored from the penalty spot by Bethany Balcer with just three minutes on the clock. Rodman's return to selection will be a boost next week, then, as the team looks to get its first win of the new season.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Rodman was named Rookie of the Year and to the NWSL Best XI when she helped fire the Spirit to a first-ever Championship triumph in 2021. She was also rewarded with a new contract that made her the highest-paid player in the league at the time.</p>
